The Hunt for Red October (1990)
This movie adaptation of Tom Clancy's blockbuster novel stars Sean Connery,
Alec Baldwin, and James Earl Jones. Virtually undetectable on sonar, the
submarine Red October constitutes a deadly first strike weapon, enough to tip
the nuclear balance in the Soviet's favor. No sooner has it left port on its
maiden voyage than Captain Ramius breaks form the official course and heads
for the U.S. It's up to CIA analyst, Jake Ryan, to determine if Ramius
intends to start a nuclear war or defect.

The Joy Luck Club (1993)
The Joy Luck Club is a mah-jong club at which four well-to-do immigrant
Shanghai women swap memories, recipes and support. When June takes the place
of her recently deceased mother in the game, the three mothers recount their
pasts. Vignettes reveal the lives of the four women in China and the
tragedies they survived and then reach into the present to capture the
relationships between the mothers and their daughters.

Yojimbo (1961)
Sanjuro, a wandering samurai, enters a rural town in nineteenth century
Japan. After learning from the innkeeper that the town is divided between two
gangsters, he plays one side off against the other. His efforts are
complicated by the arrival of the wily Unosuke, the son of one of the
gangsters. Unosuke has Sanjuro beaten and then massacres his father's
opponents. During the slaughter, the samurai escapes with the help of the
innkeeper, but while recuperating at a nearby temple, he learns of the
innkeeper's abduction by Unosuke and returns to the town to confront him.
