To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
This faithful adaptation of the powerful Harper Lee novel, told
through the eyes of the young female narrator, is both an evocative
portrayal of childhood innocence and a denunciation of bigotry.
Gregory Peck's performance as Atticus Fitch, a white southern lawyer
defending a black man accused of raping a white woman is flawless.
What will be the outcome in this racially divided Alabama town?
Robert Duval makes his film debut as the dim-witted Boo Radley.
Winner of the 1962 Academy Award for Best Actor (Gregory Peck).

Salut cousin! (1996)
Cultures collide in Salut Cousin!, a vibrant film from Algerian
director Merzak Allouache. A boy from the old country, Alilo, arrives
in Paris to pick up a suitcase of women's dresses that will be sold
back in North Africa. Naive in the ways of the European capital, he is
taken in by his worldly cousin Mok. Mok dreams of being a rap star and
recites the fables of La Fontaine with a hip-hop beat. The two have a
variety of misadventures involving racial attacks, nasty debt
collectors and romance. The subject is serious, though the tone stays
relatively light. Local color is vivid, and the movie brims with life.
In French with English subtitles. This is a free event cosponsored by
