"Here it is at last, the first Agatha Christie musical."
-- Roger Ebert, The Chicago Sun-Times. Read this review.
"Pure -- that is to say innocent and uncorrupted -- fun ... Forbidden love! Incest! Illegitimacy! Alcoholism! And in due course a pearl-handled revolver flashes out of a pink purse."
-- A. O. Scott, The New York Times. Read this review.
Eight women, played by a veritable who's who of French cinema (including Catherine Deneuve, Emmanuelle Béart, Isabelle Huppert, and Ludivine Sagnier). Designer clothing, bright faces, and, lest we forget, a corpse with a knife in his back.
A parody of Hollywood musicals from the Technicolor era, this latest film from French director François Ozon (Swimming Pool, Water Drops on
Burning Rocks) is a fun, light whodunit, punctuated by unexpected forays into song and dance. Everyone has a motive for the killing, but while we're looking for the murderess, let's have some fun first.
